In 2009 our local golf course organised a golf trip to the Algarve, playing golf at Vale Da Pinta and Gramacho golf courses. Whilst the touring party was in excess of 36 golfers, a small group of six stuck together for the four day trip. During the trip we started to talk about how good it was to go away as a group of lads and play golf abroad. Rather than attend the same event each year, we decided it would be better to arrange our own trip and it was at that point that the PartnersGolfingAbroad (PGA) Tour was formed.

Our first tour took us to Belek in Turkey in 2010 and over the years has visited Marrakech (Morocco), Myrtle Beach (USA), Costa del Sol (Spain), Cascais (Lisbon, Portugal) & Varna (Bulgaria). Over the years a total of 18 golfers have toured with us, with a core of 12 attending most tours, for the duration of 7 days.

Ahead of the second tour (and after Europe winning the 2010 Ryder Cup) we decided to book a weekend break to the Celtic Manor, where we staged our own team event. As with the main tour, this has now become an annual event which is usually held as the last event of the year. At the time of writing this we have visited the Southport (various times and courses), Forest of Arden, The Vale Resort, Hanbury Manor, Princes, East Sussex National, Saunton & Royal North Devon, Woodhall Spa and Leckford.

As the numbers grew on the summer tour in and the fear of the trophies breaking in transit, we decided we needed to hold our annual prize giving in the UK. Without a second thought it was clear that we needed to organise another round of golf alongside the prize giving (any excuse). Having just returned from Portugal where we had the chance to play the incredible Royal Obidos course designed by Seve the choice of venue could only be The Shire London (the only course that Seve designed in England).

The Golf Day has also been held at The Oxfordhsire and Leckford over previous years, with the main prize giving now moving to a new event…. the Annual ODOS BBQ.

Whilst we started out as a small group of friends who happened to be Partners in the same business (hence the previous name of PGA Tour or ‘Partners Golfing Abroad’ Tour) over time the link to the business has all but gone. It was for this reason in 2019 that we re-branded the group as the ODOS Golf Society, the inspiration for which came from our tour to Cascais in 2017.

Sadly in 2023, JLP sold Winter Hill Golf Club, which has been a base for the majority of the groups golf on a weekly basis for the last 15+ years. It was WHGC that arranged the 2009 trip that inspired us to create everything that you will find in these pages, and for that we are incredibly grateful. Since the sale of WHGC some of the group have choosen to remain at Winter Hill, others have used the opportunity to seek out other courses and challenges and for some the cost of ‘un-subsidised’ golf is hard to justify being a member with the amount of golf played. One thing I am sure will remain and that is our annual trip of friends getting away to golf and share more memories together.
